Introduction to the Laboratory of Structural Engineering

May 20, 2018    Author:

Construction of the lab started in 2003 and ended in August 2007. Affiliated with the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, the lab is a specialized one. There are 8 teachers and full-time experimenters, among whom 4 received doctors degrees, 2 masters ones and 2 bachelors ones. Four of them obtained vice-senior titles and above, and four obtained intermediate titles. The lab takes up an area of 3,000 square meters and its design is way ahead of its time. Its L-shaped reaction wall is 16.5 meters high and the working area of the test bench is 1200 square meters. With a total value of more than 3.6 million yuan, the 30 sets of equipment include six-channel electro-hydraulic servo coordination loading systems and six-column space loading racks, 1000T long cylinder pressure testing machines and some other experimental devices. The lab offers a base for teaching, research, and conducting experiment in the School of Civil Engineering.

In order to cultivate the hands-on ability of college students, our school invested 160,000 yuan in 2012 to build a training base with an area of 1,000 square meters. The abundant base facilities include construction machinery such as concrete mixers, steel bar straightening machines, and steel bar hook machines. Students can do some construction exercises without going to real construction sites. With great enthusiasm, our students built a spacial reinforced concrete frame in 2014. Our T-WOD Production Practice Model by the Civil Engineering Program was awarded the first prize of practical teaching cases in the provincial practical teaching competition.

Since we have a growing number of scientific research and laboratory management personnel, we will put our priorities on improving the testing technology, developing experimental equipment, training personnel, and accelerating laboratory construction while ensuring our teaching quality in line with the medium and long-term planning of our department, school, and university. The three-way six-degree-of-freedom seismic simulation shaker project we declared in 2015 has already been approved and entered the research and construction stage. Our laboratory is willing to establish extensive contacts, exchange information, conduct cooperative research, and achieve great  progress together with domestic and international counterparts. We strive to become a key laboratory at school level.
