Established in 2003, the lab is specialized one affiliated with the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Its predecessor was one of the divisions of the Civil Engineering Foundation Laboratory. There are 12 teachers and full-time experimenters including 9 doctors. Nine of them obtained vice-senior titles and above, and two obtained intermediate titles. Located on the first and third floors in Building B in the 16th group in Jinming Campus, the lab takes up an area of 1,000 square meters. There are over 280 sets of experiment equipment and devices with a value of more than 3 million yuan.
The laboratory is dedicated to the teaching and research for undergraduates and graduates in Civil Engineering. It mainly undertakes the teaching of courses on Geotechnical Experiments, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering Testing and Testing Technology, and Pavement and Subgrade Engineering Testing.
The laboratory consists of divisions for geophysics, geotechnical engineering, and in-situ testing. The technical performance indicators of the vast majority of equipment and devices have reached the advanced level domestically.
Other than fulfilling traditional teaching tasks, we have also actively carried out experimental teaching reforms and scientific research work and achieved a series of achievements. We have won a first prize of the Henan Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award; a first prize of outstanding achievements in educational science in Henan Province; two first prizes, five second prizes, and a third prize of the 10th Natural Science Excellent Academic Paper of Henan Province; a first prize and a second prize of the First Natural Science Academic Award of Henan Province; and a third prize for the scientific and technological progress of the whole army. In the past 2 years, we have published 36 papers of various kinds, including 13 in EI. We have also undertaken six scientific research projects, among which two were already approved. We have published one textbook of “Study Course of Geotechnical Engineering” as well.
Since we have a growing number of scientific research and laboratory management personnel, we will put emphasis on teaching and research work while ensuring our teaching quality in line with the medium and long-term planning of our department, school, and university. We strive to become a key laboratory at school level.
